This meet is an exceptional opportunity to compete in an outstanding facility. The Martin Aquatics Center has been rated as one of the three fastest pools in the country. Wave action is kept to a minimum by implementing a state-of-the-art gutter and flow-through bulkhead system, combined with quality non-turbulent lane lines and a minimum depth of nine feet. This meet has averaged close to 200 swimmers each year since (at least) 2001. This event has been run since 1998, and was the site for the Dixie Zone SCY Championships in 2001. Due to the number of teams involved there are three categories for team trophies: Large, Medium, and Small. The break-off point between the three categories was determined by the meet director after the entries were received. (The host team was not a contender for team awards.) The Martin Aquatics Center is nestled between the Beard-Eves Memorial Coliseum (to the East) and the Student Activities Center (to the West). The main entrance to the Aquatics Center is at ground level on the East side of the building (near the middle, and it is accessible from either end of the building). The locker facilities are utilitarian, but functional. If you bring a lock you should have a place to secure your stuff (there are plenty of lockers). There is lots of parking on the North end of the building. |

Masters Swimming - Annual SCY Invitational
Travel Notes If you would like to share some of your favorite (or not so favorite) experiences for traveling to this event then this is the place to do so. Send comments to the SMS Web Master. Including data like zip codes, addresses, and/or street intersections will make it easier for folks to find places at on-line services like MapQuest.com. The AU Web has an excellent interactive Campus Map. It is a bit slow to load for 56K dial-up users, but once it is loaded it operates quickly. Auburn University Hotel (and Dixon Conference Center) In 2005 this facility ran about $100 per room per night (two beds). It is quite comfortable, and is about a 5-10 minute walk across campus from the pool. The dining area is elegant and provides a decent menu with good food. Breakfast is easy, with a self serve buffet (in addition to menu items). Two blocks to the North of the AU Hotel is a college town like strip with eats and treats and shops, similar to those commonly found in college towns. There are a number of other places to eat and lodge along US-29 between I-85 and the AU Hotel that are all just a few minutes drive from the MAC. The 2005 Saturday evening party was an easy walk from the AU Hotel. As a point of reference: The distance between Montgomery and Auburn is about 50 miles. From Montgomery Take I-85 North to Auburn. In Auburn take exit 51 (US-29N) and go North about 3.5 miles on US-29. The Auburn University Hotel is located directly across from the Draughon Library at 241 South College Street (which is still US-29N). Travel Time to Auburn from: Slidell, LA (the I-12/10/59 junction) you need to allow about 6 hours. |
